Lindahl Reed was awarded a two (2) year contract with the USDA, Office of Energy and Environmental Policy, to conduct an analysis of Agricultural Carbon Markets.  We are providing specialized greenhouse gas, carbon market, and economic analysis to re-examine the fundamentals of establishing a system to monetize GHG reductions from the agricultural sector. The goal of this project is to develop the framework for transformative, systematic, scalable approaches to carbon markets for agriculture. Lindahl Reed is analyzing potential alternatives to the existing design of carbon market systems as they apply to voluntary agricultural offsets for working lands.  This analysis will identify ways to reduce transaction costs, increasing the incentive for agricultural producers to generate GHG reductions and carbon sequestration on their lands.  The information developed will help governments at all levels design market-based policies that will create new opportunities to provide food, generate additional income, and reduce the GHG footprint of producers across the country.

“We are thrilled to be selected by the USDA for this important project to re-examine the fundamentals of the carbon market to increase monetization of GHG reductions from the agricultural sector,” said Nicole R Hough, Lindahl Reed’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “The potential for reducing emissions through the agricultural sector is significant and enhancing a market for agricultural producers that is both more functional and credible is critical to quickly scaling up practices that continue to preserve and enhance America’s working lands.”
