Gold Star Sailing hosted 24 Gold Star children, all teenagers, for a week of on water sailing instruction, camaraderie, and development of life skills. Increased financial and community support for Gold Star Sailing enabled it’s 12th year to be one of the best yet! Rain early in the week didn’t dampen the mood, and the ambitious goals of a busy week on the water were still met!

On Friday night, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 406, Newport hosted a send off dinner for the camp attendees & staff, and the service members assigned to Coast Guard Station Castle Hill, Newport, RI (who provided tremendous support through the week). In addition to celebrating a successful week of camp, campers were visited by a USCG search and rescue team assigned to Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and received a traditional Sailors’ Blessing from the VFW Post Chaplain while enjoying sunset over Narragansett Bay.
